 District Initiatives

Welcome

The Belvidere School District supports a variety of district-wide initiatives that nurture the entire student.  Recognizing it is a shared responsibility, the district proudly partners with students, parents, and the community to ensure the success of these initiatives.

Strategic Plan.  A strategic plan was created in 2007 and implemented in 2008 and is the driving force in all decision-making efforts of the district.  The plan consists of four strategies, and each strategy has an action plan that outlines how the strategy will be met.

Health and Wellness. A Wellness Committee consisting of parents, students, representatives of the district's food service provider, the school board, building administrators, and community members oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of a wellness policy.  To maximize classroom time and to achieve positive changes in students' eating behaviors, nutrition education is integrated into the standards-based lesson plans of school subjects such as math, science, language arts, physical education, health, family and consumer science, and social sciences.

Foundation for Excellence in Education.  Founded in 1992, the District #100 Foundation for Excellence in Education supports, complements, and enriches the educational programs and opportunities for all students in District #100 through the awarding of grants.  The Foundation is organized solely for educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and accepts donations from public and private sources for the general grant program.  All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.  The Foundation also accepts donations for and administers awards for a variety of restricted funds that have been donated to fund a specific program or award such as music scholarships, academic achievements, etc.

Community Cupboard Food Pantry.  Through a partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank and a grant from Target Stores, the district operates a school-based food pantry known as the Community Cupboard.  Located inside the Boone County Center (1320 East Avenue, Belvidere), the pantry is open every Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and provides food to families with children attending District #100 schools.  Proof of need is not required, and clients may receive food one time per month, or every four weeks.  The Community Cupboard is part of the Belvidere School District and s recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
