The 2011-2012 school year is off to a fantastic start!  We are excited about some new opportunities being afforded t our students and their families, including the opening of Belvidere Endeavor High School and Washington Academy, and a new textbook adoption being introduced to all kindergarten through fifth grade students.

Belvidere Endeavor principal Ms. Stephanie Bye and her greeted forty-four students in the newly-opened alternative high school.  Each classroom is equipped with interactive whiteboard technology, and the building also offers other state-of-the-art options designed to educate students with 21st century skills.  Belvidere Endeavor is located at 1320 East Avenue, in the former Boone County Center building.

Washington Academy opened its doors on August 3 as the district's first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) school.  The academy offers a balanced school year calendar, a uniform dress code for staff and students, a parent involvement component, and daily exposure to technology with the guidance of learning specialists.  Mrs. Megan Johnson, principal, greeted over 750 students to the district's first choice magnet school.

One of the biggest challenges faced by school districts throughout the United States is poor student performance in the area of mathematics.  As a result, leaders from around the country have established high standards, commonly referred to as Common Core Standards.  For the past two years, teachers and district leaders have studied the needs of our students and recommended the Common Core enVisionMATH by Pearson Publishing Company as the program which best aligns with our needs.

Please contact the district if you have any questions.
