Marcus Gooden, a senior at Belvidere High School, will sign his National Letter of Intent to play football at Minnesota State University on Wednesday, February 1.
A NIC-10 Scholar Athlete and honor roll student for the last four years, Marcus was named in 2011 to the IHSFCA All-State Academic Team, was an IHSFCA All State honorable mention, NIC-10 All Conference 1st team, and team captain. He rushed for over 2,100 yards, averaging 7.3 yards per carry, and scored 35 touchdowns. Marcus was also selected to play in the 2011 Illinois Coaches Association's High School All-Star Shrine Game at Illinois Wesleyan University, was the team captain in 2011 for the Belvidere Bucs basketball team, selected to play in the 2011 Junior Showcase baseball game at Road Ranger Stadium, was voted the most valuable player in track in 2009, and was a state qualifier for the triple jump in 2009.
In addition to sports, Marcus supports Relay 4 Life by participating in several breast cancer awareness walks, volunteers for the Arthritis Foundation's annual Jingle Bell Run, is a member of the BHS B-Club, volunteers at several local food pantries, is a youth mentor and speaker at church and school, and is employed part-time as a teller at Alpine Bank.
Marcus plans to major in business/finance.
