The Belvidere North Science Olympiad team took 2nd place at the Rock Valley College Regional competition on March 23rd. The team also qualified for the state competition at the University of Illinois on April 13th.
Belvidere North High School student, Jonathon Giesecke is the 2018-19 IHSA nominee for the NFHS Heart of the Arts Award and has been named the NFHS winner for Section 4. The senior’s debate resume includes nearly 30 different accolades representing qualifications or Top 10 or better finishes at local, state and national debate competitions.
The names of the students who competed this weekend are:
Johnathon and Burke won the Public Forum state title and the All-State team in Public Forum. Lauren Shelton and Michael Milles were Quarterfinalists in Public Forum. Nicholas Goymerac was also a quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas and made the All-State team in Lincoln-Douglas.
The Golden Apple Foundation made its first stop this morning to Belvidere North High School to surprise and honor Golden Apple winner, Mrs. Amanda Newmes. Newmes, a science teacher at BNHS was also surprised by her husband and two children, along with District 100 staff and administration.
Several Belvidere North High Students and their artwork will be featured in Rock Valley College's Student Art Show. Student, Elizabeth Hare was one of 19 students that was honored with an award. Hare received an Honorable Mention for her Ceramic ring titled, "Garden Rabbit".
BELVIDERE, Ill. - Belvidere North's high school students are gaining career readiness skills while working on plant and animal-based projects. The school's Agricultural class has a greenhouse and livestock, allowing students to do labs to get them ready for the future.
