Quarter 2

Algebra 1

This quarter in Math/Algebra we have learned a lot. In the regular math class they have learned about simple interest as well as percents. In Algebra we are learning about polynomials. It had been a long quarter, but we all are progressing. With all the hard worth, we are sure to have a great year.

Honors Language Arts

This quarter in Language Arts we are reading a book called The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It is a very interesting book. It is about a young boy who enjoys superstitions and learns to con people into doing things he doesn’t want to.  For example, he tricks two boys to whitewash his fence so he can eat and watch them.  He tells them it is a privilege to do this. Also, we wrote a narrative essay about a favorite moment in our life. We are also doing weekly worksheets about writing and reading to prepare for the ISATS.

Science

After finishing a quarter and a semester, we have learned a lot in science class. We finished the chemistry section. In this section, we did many labs and lots of vocabulary. We have also started an astronomy unit, and we have already started two sections. In this section, we will learn about the planets and other celestial bodies. We are looking forward to another quarter and semester in science class.

Band

The entire school band performed separately in an all out great set of performances. Lots of preparation and hard work helped for a great concert. Ms. Kelly, the band teacher, worked hard to improve the bands instrumental skills. Many more shows are to come in the future. And all will be better than the next. That’s a promise! Look forward to it and come to support the BCMS band.

Chorus

In chorus this quarter the kids will be rehearsing for Solo/Ensemble, a Wicked medley, theory packets, and NCJC. Solo/ensemble is where you get to sing in front of a judge either by yourself or in a group and are graded on how you sing. We have also listened to all the songs from Wicked and are going to be singing it in our spring concert. In class we have also been working on musical skill packets. Lastly, Mrs.Karvelious takes all of the boys and picks some girls to go to NCJC which is a singing competition.

Jazz Band Concert

Students of Belvidere Central Middle School sat in the cafeteria on December 10th and witnessed the High School Jazz Band perform. The band performed many famous jazz songs that most students could recognize. Their conductor led the band to a very smooth performance. Instruments from the guitar to the keyboard were used in the concert. Some of the band members were given solos which brought all the attention to them. If their performance could be rated, we would give the jazz band a rating of 9. Students cold tell that the band spent a while practicing for this moment.

This year team Quest has chosen to sell checkbooks as its fundraiser. So far the team has sold enough to break even. The students on team Quest are still selling them today in hopes of making a profit. They are 30 dollars a piece and they have many good quality discounts for different local companies.

Mix It Up Day

Mix It Up Day was a blast!  Just an average November day turned out to be a great day to meet new friends.   Mr. Fleishman D.J.ing and the cheerleaders and poms entertaining with dance and song, set the stage for students to mix it up and sit by someone new at lunch.  Student Council staffed a table that rewarded you and your friends by giving you stickers and pencils.  An interview with Angela Cliff on Team Quest revealed that this experience was fun and helped her meet new people.  Overall, the whole event was exciting for the students and enjoyable for the teachers.
