Mission and Beliefs

Mission:

Our mission as Belvidere School District Elementary School Counselors is to provide a comprehensive and developmental appropriate program that assists the school community and inspires all students to reach their full potential through academic, social/personal, and career support.

Beliefs:

All Belvidere School District elementary school counselors believe:

All students have the right to be a part of the school counseling program

  • All students are valuable and deserve respect
  • The diversity of each student is considered when planning and delivering the school counseling program
  • All students will have equal access to services provided by the school counseling program
  • All students will have access to a state-certified, master’s-degree-level school counselor to deliver the school counseling program

And the school counseling program should:

Be comprehensive in scope, preventative in design, and developmental in nature

  • Be planned and incorporate academic, social/personal, and career components
  • Be aligned with American School Counseling Association (ASCA) Standards and Illinois Social-Emotional Learning Standards
  • Include school guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and system support
  • Use data to monitor students’ results

We believe that all school counselors should:

Abide by the professional ethics of guidance and counseling as advocated by the American School Counseling Association (ASCA)

  • Participate in a professional development program essential to maintain a quality guidance program
