6th Grade Business Education
The main focus of 6th grade business education is to have the students learn how to type using the touch method of keyboarding. Students are encouraged to use proper technique and to keep their eyes on the copy they are typing from. Orange keyboard skins are used to cover the keyboarded to keep students from looking at the keys. In class we go over different lessons to learn all the letters and numbers on the keyboard. Students also learn basic punctuation marks and review their uses. Microtype and Microsoft Word are the programs used to help students type. Besides learning to keyboard properly, students also learn basic computer terminology. Microsoft Word toolbar functions (such as bold, underline, change font, etc) are also introduced. If time allows, students will get a basic introduction to the Internet and drawing features.

What can you do at home to help your student:
Encourage your child to use the home row keys when typing and use good typing technique. Have them practice the different reaches for the keys. Student can type a page from their favorite book or words to their favorite song. You can also tape a piece of paper over the keyboard so students do not look at their keys.
Practice makes perfect when learning a new skill!
