Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is a program that is used by almost everyone.  It is used when in High School, it is used in College, and is used frequently in the workplace.  It is important for students to have a good understanding how to use Word in different situations.  Listed below are the types of projects that students do with Word in 8th grade Business Education.

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is another important program in the Microsoft Suite.  Students can do many things with Excel including tracking data and preparing math equations.  In class, students will get a good understanding of the uses for Excel.  They will also learn how to format spreadsheets so they look professional.  

Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint is an excellent program that is most commonly used to create presentations.  Students enjoy working with PowerPoint because they get to include animation and special effects in their PowerPoint projects.  Students learn techniques for creating and presenting a professional PowerPoint.  Students present to their classmates and are graded on presentation skills.  PowerPoint activities include:

Final Project

The last two weeks of class will be devoted to a final project.  This final project incorporates many of the concepts taught in the class.  The final project is called "Let's Eat" and involves the beginning steps of starting a restaurant.  Students will come up with a name for their imaginary restaurant and determine where it is located.  They then create a help wanted ad to obtain employees for their restaurant.  They  also create a menu, poster, and newspaper article.   The second part of the assignment asks students to create a PowerPoint presentation, a payroll spreadsheet, and a specials poster.
