Science Olympiad is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. There is a team of 15 students plus two alternates that participate in 23 events at the regional and possibly state, and national tournaments. The regional competition is held at Rock Valley College on March 8, 2008. The State competition is April 26, 2008 at the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. The National Tournament is May 30 & 31, 2008 at George Washington University, Washington, DC. The Science Olympiad is an international nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both student and teachers. The Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competition that consist of a series of team events, which students prepare for during the year. Some events follow the format of popular board games, TV shows and athletic games. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science concepts, process skills and science applications.

Student Council is a club where students are elected to be representatives from their peers.  We meet every two weeks in the Library on Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. - 8:25 a.m.  It is an honor and a privilege to be part of this group.  We sponsor all of the school dances and we held a clothing drive this year.  We have bought many school gifts including atomic clocks for the building, a table skirt, and a rug for the office. We are planning on sponsoring a food drive this spring.  Student Council members are positive roll models who are willing to help their school and community.  If you have any questions or comments please contact Mrs. Wis at ext. 1054.

MathCounts
Mr. Rabideau
Ext. 1065

The MathCounts team is composed of students from Mr. Rabideau's or Mrs. Gallagly's Algebra classes.  Students volunteer to practice once a week after school starting right after Thanksgiving.  Questions involved in the contest include all the strands of math including algebra, probability, statistics, geometry, and number theory.  Students must be well versed in all categories to do well.  A focus on one area is not sufficient to succeed.  Practice on questions and the test formats are done, culminating in the competition at Rock Valley College in February.
