SCIENCE


The different topics we cover in physical science are matter, the periodic table, the scientific method, electricity, magnetism, learning how to use the Bunsen burner and other areas. We cover the earth science topics of space, learning about space exploration, living in space (we will be trying to dehydrate food and rehydrating it for students to eat), constellations and much more.  Also, throughout the school year we do other out of class projects like a bridge project, a space project, and possibly a few others.

Social Studies

Eighth grade social studies is the continuation of the seventh grade curriculum.  The time period covered is from Reconstruction to the present.  Some of the topics covered during the year include the American West, Industrial Era, World War I, Great Depression, World War II, Cold War, Civil Rights Era, and the Reagan years.  Students will work on note taking, using and understanding the social studies vocabulary, reading comprehension, and essay writing.  Thematic projects using primary sources will be offered at various times during the year.  Some examples of thematic projects include using the computer lab to work on Web quests, a research paper, and the Family History project.
