Sixth grade students identify the principles of design and
use the design elements in decorating a bedroom. They
discover how to organize their living space, understand
blueprints and learn how to draw to scale. They also
practice safety in a sewing lab, learn to operate a sewing
machine and construct a pillow. Students become aware of
careers that relate to reading a blueprint and careers in the
fashion and textile industries.

Seventh grade
students learn about recipes, terms used in recipes,
measuring, safety and sanitation in the kitchen. They
learn about equipment in the kitchen, manners and correct
table settings. They also learn about the nutrients in
food, snacks, breakfast, milk and milk products, meats and
healthy diets. Students prepare and serve food
practicing the concepts they have learned.

Eighth grade
students identify their personal interests, aptitudes and
abilities as they relate to their career interests. They
explore various careers, learn how to fill out an application,
write a resume and interview for a job. Students will
interview for positions for a snack shop they will operate
within the classroom.
