Philosophy, Requirements & other cool stuff!

The physical education department shares the philosophy that each student should participate to the best of their ability, have a sense of fair play, and have fun.  We also share the belief that adolescence is a unique journey in a person’s life and consider it a privilege to work with students during this time.

Uniforms:

BSMS PE uniforms –required
Socks  - required
Tennis shoes—required
Sweatshirts & sweatpants—optional

*Students will be offered a lender uniform when their uniform is not at school.  Refusal to dress will result in
an office referral.  Other consequences for non-dress may be detentions, lower grades, and non-participation.

Medical Excuses:

Students with a medical excuse for PE should bring the doctor’s or parent’s note to the nurse.  Students on medical excuse for more than three days should report to their teacher for a written assignment.

Jewelry Policy:

All jewelry will be removed for safety concerns.  Any new piercing will be covered with tape provided by the student.  Students must provide a note from parents with the date of the piercing and will be removed after the appropriate time.

P.E. units are taught on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  The following is a list of the units offered at BSMS:

Badminton, Bowling, Tumbling, Basketball Volleyball, Floor Hockey, Racket Sports, Soccer, Football, Speedball, Team Handball, Flickerball, Softball, Recreational Games.

Tuesday and Thursdays
are devoted to Physical Fitness.  Students are given choices and must attend each of these stations:

Jog/walk, Cardio games, Agility, Weight training, and Strength training.  Students are given an effort grade.

When a student is absent 3 or more times or has a zero on their fitness card, their quarter grade will be dropped one letter grade.  Students can make either of these up on Thursday mornings.  See your teacher!
