Congratulations to Elizabeth Gonzalez -Physics Teacher of the Year!

Belvidere High School teacher, Elizabeth Gonzalez, was awarded the Physics Teacher of the Year award through the Illinois Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers.

Not only is Elizabeth a teacher at Belvidere High School. she's also involved with a program called the Illinois Physics and Secondary Schools program. The program is a fellowship with the University of Illinois Physics Department as part of a $2.6M NSF grant. Teachers of physics are selected across the state through application to participate and Elizabeth has been involved since the 2021-22 school year (cohort 2).

The program allows teachers access to the highest-quality, evidence based practices and resources, including resources developed at the University which are then implemented in teacher classrooms. As a member of cohort 2, Elizabeth now has a leadership role in the community sharing her ideas and resources with the 40 teachers in the program that span the state of Illinois. Elizabeth's impact, therefore, spans far beyond the district, and even the region!
