VFW Teacher of the Year - Mrs. Kristine Frank

Mrs.KristineFrank

Kristine Frank, PE Teacher at Washington Academy, received the VFW Teacher of the Year Award on January 20, 2024, and advanced to the District 6 level, where she also received the VFW Teacher of the Year Award. Mrs. Frank is now waiting to hear if she will be advancing to the State level!

Each year Mrs. Frank goes above and beyond putting on a Veterans' Day assembly to teach the students about the Armed Forces. This is an all day event to include miniature flags Mrs. Frank purchases on her own to place around the perimeter of her school building along with repairing any flags that get damaged by the weather, in addition to donating miniature flags to each student and staff member at her school.  She also secures military vehicles for the students to learn about and sit in, and organizes Veterans reading in classrooms and having lunch with them to answer questions and share their stories and pictures.  Afterwards she puts on a school wide assembly for local veterans and the students to participant in. The assembly includes Posting the Colors by the Color Guard, songs by the students, playing of the Armed Forces Medley to recognize and honor the Veterans in attendance from the different branches of the armed service, guest speakers, and students reciting what it means to be a veteran. And this is just at her school. Outside of the school, Mrs. Frank is just as involved in the community supporting the VFW and veterans.

Congratulations Mrs. Frank and thank you for all you do!
